Winchester/Fairfield Expedition - The Town of Fairfield
[You saw the towns some time ago, but it still took a good couple hours of treading past the farmland around it before you actually reached it. They have a distinctly "old western" type of feel to them, with their dusty, unpaved dirt roads and the collection of buildings-- most of them obviously wooden-- sitting side-by-side along either side of the road.
More observant residents may notice that the nearer they come to the town, the more people that look up and notice, and subsequently hurry off or head inside. And even if you didn't notice it as you closed in, it sure becomes apparent once you step under the archway of the town; there's no one around. The tumbleweed that rolls by almost seems to be mocking the residents.
Another thing that becomes apparent is the state of the town. Besides having gone eerily quiet, some of the buildings have been wrecked. There are gouges in the wood, where it hasn't been punched through or torn apart. Rails are broken, and a few of them even have damaged or missing doors.
Are they too late?]

You'll have to excuse my people's reactions, we've had a rough couple of days. A rough couple of years, really.
[He takes a moment to study their faces, frowning softly]
I'm...afraid I don't recognise any of you. What group are you travelling with?
no subject
It's okay. Their reaction is understandable. [She pauses, holding out a hand]
My name's Phoebe Halliwell. We heard your message and we've come to help.

Glad to see you're still in one piece. My name's York, and I guess we're our own group. We heard the radio distress call.
[He frowns a little, glancing around the town. It had been years, but his own farmhouse should be around here somewhere.]
What kind of fortifications have you set up? Do you have good weapons?

Um...we're travelling together as a group of our own, sir. We heard a distress call and wanted to come and help. You wouldn't happen to be the fellow who sent it, would you?

We heard a distress message and came to assist. Is there anybody who needs medical attention?

He casts a smile at the young boy, hoping to put him at ease, relaxing his own posture. ]
One can hardly blame you. We react that way at times too, after all. We can assure you, though, we did not come with the intention to harm but to aid however we can. You did send the message, did you not?

[On his face is a concerned frown, tempered with a little relief that they did get here in time to help.] Your voice, sir, it was yourself that made the radio distress call? A lot of us agreed that it was the least we could do to offer our help.

[He does not recognize Dr. Brewer, nor the others who greet him. But he does recognize the oddly quiet Elf.]
[Though Thorin would rather pull out his own teeth with his smith's tongs than share an Elf's company, he does not feel being alone in this place would be safe. Plus, the Elf seems to be heading to a building that resembles the old taverns of his world.]
[Who is Thorin to refuse a drink?]
Didn't figure you Elves enjoyed drinkin'.

Okaaaay, so we've got some conquering heroes, that's awesome. The Doc kind of minored in hospitality, so if any of you need food or rest or whatever, I can show you the places you need to be.
[He snaps his fingers and gestures to...pretty much every female in the group] Especially you foxy ladies. Click-click-rawwwr.
Anyone up for a chance to take five, hop aboard the Heath Train.
