Winchester/Fairfield Expedition - The Town of Fairfield

[You saw the towns some time ago, but it still took a good couple hours of treading past the farmland around it before you actually reached it. They have a distinctly "old western" type of feel to them, with their dusty, unpaved dirt roads and the collection of buildings-- most of them obviously wooden-- sitting side-by-side along either side of the road.

More observant residents may notice that the nearer they come to the town, the more people that look up and notice, and subsequently hurry off or head inside. And even if you didn't notice it as you closed in, it sure becomes apparent once you step under the archway of the town; there's no one around. The tumbleweed that rolls by almost seems to be mocking the residents.

Another thing that becomes apparent is the state of the town. Besides having gone eerily quiet, some of the buildings have been wrecked. There are gouges in the wood, where it hasn't been punched through or torn apart. Rails are broken, and a few of them even have damaged or missing doors.

Are they too late?]

In Nostos? 'Bout three years now. I arrived in Draconis just before the castle flipped out.

Yeah you know. That's the name of like, this whole world.

I've never heard that before. I guess it makes sense that the whole world would have its own name, though.

Why? What have you been calling it?

[She shrugs]

Paradisa. 'course I don't think we know just how big this world is so we're usually just referring to our little part of it.

The big empty castle in the middle of everything?

It's not empty. That's where we're from. I've lived there for like two and a half years.

Whoah, so it like...took in new people?

Yeah I think the longest people have been in there has been like five or six years.

Wow, and we never knew. And your castle's like...okay?

Not crazy or evil? Or both?

It's a little crazy, I guess. But it's mostly harmless. Mostly it just messes with people by putting them on losses. Like I was turned into a fairy for a month.

[That may or may not be a derisive snort. Fairys go to that OTHER school] Wow. A fairy. Impressive.

The others said Draconis did stuff like that, I never got the chance to see it. Yay me.

I showed up in the castle a few days before it went nutso. I never really went through the super fun happy castle experience.

Seriously? That blows! That's so not fair.

Eh, I don't mind so much. At least I didn't end up on any world changes or got turned normie or anything. That would have been way weird.

[Wait. He'll squint at her. Is she human? Man it's really hard to tell out here. Better be safe than sorry, they're always so freaking touchy] Uh. No offence?

[That makes her pause for a moment]

Normie? Oh! You mean like a regular human? [She shrugs] I am one but I don't care. I know enough people with magic and powers and shit so I know what you mean.

You never know in the dead zone. [He gives a small shrug] It's just bad enough being turned off all the time, it'd probably be even worse to be completely nor-human.

Not that I'm saying it's a bad thing. It probably isn't?
