Winchester/Fairfield Expedition - The Town of Fairfield

[You saw the towns some time ago, but it still took a good couple hours of treading past the farmland around it before you actually reached it. They have a distinctly "old western" type of feel to them, with their dusty, unpaved dirt roads and the collection of buildings-- most of them obviously wooden-- sitting side-by-side along either side of the road.

More observant residents may notice that the nearer they come to the town, the more people that look up and notice, and subsequently hurry off or head inside. And even if you didn't notice it as you closed in, it sure becomes apparent once you step under the archway of the town; there's no one around. The tumbleweed that rolls by almost seems to be mocking the residents.

Another thing that becomes apparent is the state of the town. Besides having gone eerily quiet, some of the buildings have been wrecked. There are gouges in the wood, where it hasn't been punched through or torn apart. Rails are broken, and a few of them even have damaged or missing doors.

Are they too late?]

[He raises an eyebrow]

Why? Is this group a group of survivors from Cair Draconis?
vesania: (Side)

[personal profile] vesania 2013-09-04 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
[...Well balls]

That would be us. ...So you did find it. Damnit, did it get out? Have your people been infected? Or did it remain dormant? [At least he seems genuinely concerned]
wilder: (you can't take the sky from me)

[personal profile] wilder 2013-09-04 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
[yes, that is something! Of course, untrusting Zelos figures that might be because he's worried about it spreading to them - but whatever really]

Yeah- we found it alright. We didn't know what was going on, so it infected our castle's residence- but then we cured it before it got too out of control.

We even put up a better warning signs afterward. So...there you go!

vesania: (Shock)

[personal profile] vesania 2013-09-04 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
[That was exactly what he never wanted to happen]

You...you cured yourselves? Your castle let you do that? Well, I'm glad. We never wanted anyone else to contract it, and at the time, everyone knew what happened to Draconis, so the castle's symbol was all the warning needed.

Looks like Nostos decided to screw us over on that one. My apologies.
wilder: (oh yeah...excuses)

[personal profile] wilder 2013-09-04 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
Well yeah of course it did. Can't exactly feed on us if we all go crazy or vacate right?

[he shrugs] Hey, don't worry about it. Accidental infections happen. Buuuut if you wanna make it up to us, I'm sure a lot of us have a lot of questions we'd like answered about this land or the castles.
vesania: (Side)

[personal profile] vesania 2013-09-04 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Then Cair Paradisa held it together. Draconis...it just closed off. We were never meant to survive it, that's how it fed. Just had everyone kill each other en masse whenever it was hungry enough. Like a python bulk feeding.

[Brewer nods] We'd be more than welcome to help. We've been living on the main continent for a few years now. We might not have all the answers, but any we can give, you're welcome to.
wilder: (thinking...)

[personal profile] wilder 2013-09-04 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
[note to self: Look up python when they get back to the castle] Sounds lovely. Paradisa can be pretty nasty at times, but quite like that.

[So trying to put pieces together in his head. This is a good opporutnity. It's hard to say when he'll get another chance]

Thanks, you're a good guy. Other stuff can wait...but I have to say, I've always been wondering:

Why did Paradisa empty out before? You sounded like you thought it had been abandoned.

vesania: (Eyebrow)

[personal profile] vesania 2013-09-04 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
It was. But it emptied before Draconis fell. We never used our Insolitus to travel there, so we never really got in touch with its people unless we came across them on our travels. As far as I know, everyone just up and left it one day. They weren't too big on sharing why.
wilder: (he just sensed Snake)

[personal profile] wilder 2013-09-04 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Damn- seriously? And here I thought it was only us they were keeping in the dark.

[HOW. ANNOYING. ]

- Wait, your Insolitus? What about using your Insolitus for travel?
vesania: (Converse)

[personal profile] vesania 2013-09-04 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
They're not exactly willing to come clean about their lives. But at least they're not openly hostile, we take what we can get.

You haven't found them yet? [What is wrong with Paradisa, is it broken?] If you go into your Insolitus, there should be some arrows to follow. They'll lead you to five doors. Five doors, five castles. Each has a symbol on it, the symbol for each individual castle. If you have the key, you can open the door and travel into that castle's Insolitus.

I'm not sure how much use it would be now. But if Paradisa repopulated, maybe the others have, too. [Though dear god he hopes Draconis didn't]
wilder: (so that's how it is.)

[personal profile] wilder 2013-09-04 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I guess not openly hostile is better than some.

[he frowns. Wait, if he put the sigil of Draconis at Totem Coast and that's the case- that explains why the sigil is on that door in the Insolitus huh?]

Really? Huh...we saw the doors, but we didn't know that part. [he shakes his head] And I've never seen any keys, so that's out anyway.

But whatever- how many people do you got? Are any of them fighters? We got a lot with us, but I'd like to know our odds facing these bug guys.
vesania: (Gene)

[personal profile] vesania 2013-09-04 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
They're not easy to find, any more. Unless Paradisa replenished them when it replenished...it's people, chances are they're with the people who lived there before you.

There's about thirty of us left. But not a lot of us are fighters, those guys got took out pretty fast when the plague hit, either by being infected themselves or trying to be heroes. We've got a few who could fight, if they were pushed.
wilder: (scoffing)

[personal profile] wilder 2013-09-04 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm...they could be with them. Oh well.

[Probably for the better anyway. Do not want to accidentally visit Draconis- in fact let's seal that door off when I get back after I look up python]

Right, makes sense. [he shrugs] Well, we'll just give it our all. We're no pushovers in our own right, don't worry!
vesania: (Side)

[personal profile] vesania 2013-09-04 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
[That is a very wise thing to do, Zelos, make sure you do that. Use a big rock]

Thank you, once we get this place at least semi defensive, they might leave us alone.
wilder: (dramatic optimistic pose!)

[personal profile] wilder 2013-09-04 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
[The biggest rock he can find. And a warning sign of "This is a bad effing plan don't go through it, no really it's a worse plan than trying to win circle the cat"]

Yeah, I sure hope so. You guys have been through enough.
vesania: (Converse)

[personal profile] vesania 2013-09-04 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Someone would still touch it because people are idiots. Circle the Cat playing idiots]

Hmmm, all we want now is a place to settle, and this seems perfect.
wilder: (yeeeah stop talking Lloyd)

[personal profile] wilder 2013-09-04 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
[He looks around, making a judging face] Really?

Well...I guess if you're into boon- small towns, sure.
vesania: (Gene)

[personal profile] vesania 2013-09-04 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
It's better than the places we have been staying. This offers us all our own space, roofs over our heads, a place to plant food, be self sufficient.
wilder: (ROSE POWER)

[personal profile] wilder 2013-09-04 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I guess that sounds better than some places out here...

[Still, he'd rather go home]

Well, home's a home I guess. We'll do everything we can to help.
vesania: (Side)

[personal profile] vesania 2013-09-04 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
We've been to other places, trust me when I tell you that it is.

Thanks, that means a lot.
wilder: (you can't take the sky from me)

[personal profile] wilder 2013-09-04 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
It's no problem.

[And he's going to go back to letting other people handle the conversation.]
