Winchester/Fairfield Expedition - The Town of Fairfield

[You saw the towns some time ago, but it still took a good couple hours of treading past the farmland around it before you actually reached it. They have a distinctly "old western" type of feel to them, with their dusty, unpaved dirt roads and the collection of buildings-- most of them obviously wooden-- sitting side-by-side along either side of the road.

More observant residents may notice that the nearer they come to the town, the more people that look up and notice, and subsequently hurry off or head inside. And even if you didn't notice it as you closed in, it sure becomes apparent once you step under the archway of the town; there's no one around. The tumbleweed that rolls by almost seems to be mocking the residents.

Another thing that becomes apparent is the state of the town. Besides having gone eerily quiet, some of the buildings have been wrecked. There are gouges in the wood, where it hasn't been punched through or torn apart. Rails are broken, and a few of them even have damaged or missing doors.

Yeah I think the longest people have been in there has been like five or six years.

It's a little crazy, I guess. But it's mostly harmless. Mostly it just messes with people by putting them on losses. Like I was turned into a fairy for a month.

[That may or may not be a derisive snort. Fairys go to that OTHER school] Wow. A fairy. Impressive.

The others said Draconis did stuff like that, I never got the chance to see it. Yay me.

I showed up in the castle a few days before it went nutso. I never really went through the super fun happy castle experience.

Eh, I don't mind so much. At least I didn't end up on any world changes or got turned normie or anything. That would have been way weird.

[Wait. He'll squint at her. Is she human? Man it's really hard to tell out here. Better be safe than sorry, they're always so freaking touchy] Uh. No offence?

[That makes her pause for a moment]

Normie? Oh! You mean like a regular human? [She shrugs] I am one but I don't care. I know enough people with magic and powers and shit so I know what you mean.

You never know in the dead zone. [He gives a small shrug] It's just bad enough being turned off all the time, it'd probably be even worse to be completely nor-human.

Not that I'm saying it's a bad thing. It probably isn't?

Hey come on, give me a break, before coming here I knew almost no normies at all.

Massachusetts. Really little town called New Salem. [There's a pause] Monsters and human we...err live apart from one another. We've got our own parts of town, the normies have got theirs. We don't mingle.

So you're segregated? That's so bogus! Why don't you guys live together?

It's always been that way. The normies are scared that'll we'll attack them or something. It's so dumb. The last time we went over there they nearly chopped my cousin's head off for something he didn't even do. And the kicker is he's half normie.

[He gives a shurg] It's just safer for us to be away from them.
