Winchester/Fairfield Expedition - The Town of Fairfield

[You saw the towns some time ago, but it still took a good couple hours of treading past the farmland around it before you actually reached it. They have a distinctly "old western" type of feel to them, with their dusty, unpaved dirt roads and the collection of buildings-- most of them obviously wooden-- sitting side-by-side along either side of the road.

More observant residents may notice that the nearer they come to the town, the more people that look up and notice, and subsequently hurry off or head inside. And even if you didn't notice it as you closed in, it sure becomes apparent once you step under the archway of the town; there's no one around. The tumbleweed that rolls by almost seems to be mocking the residents.

Another thing that becomes apparent is the state of the town. Besides having gone eerily quiet, some of the buildings have been wrecked. There are gouges in the wood, where it hasn't been punched through or torn apart. Rails are broken, and a few of them even have damaged or missing doors.

Are they too late?]

A direction is a start. Maybe we can work on locating their base after we help you defend the town.

You should be careful, there's a lot of them. From what I understood, they took down one of the larger groups out here easily.

You mean the group whose base got crushed when they landed?

You heard about that?

I was there to see it. The aftermath of it, anyway.

[She also snuck onto the ship to see sights unspecified, but some things are best not mentioned around possibly concerned adults.]

And you were unhurt?

[Dairine shrugs.]

Pretty much. We had a small scrape with the Collectors, but we managed to push them back.

That's good to hear.

...How did the Giraffes handle it?

[wizard_redfive]

About as well as you might expect. Some panicked, some ignored the attack entirely.

[vesania]

Sounds right for the Giraffes. [His tone is not amused. He's not a fan]

They were grateful enough after the fact at least. They offered us a gift and a ride home.

[vesania]

Really? They must have really taken to you, they're usually very suspicious of people.

[wizard_redfive]

We noticed that. They were still pretty cagey about giving information, but I guess they warmed up a little after the attack was driven away.

They probably saw giving you the ride back as a way of returning the favour. Favours can do a lot, out here, where money doesn't matter.
