Winchester/Fairfield Expedition - The Town of Fairfield

[You saw the towns some time ago, but it still took a good couple hours of treading past the farmland around it before you actually reached it. They have a distinctly "old western" type of feel to them, with their dusty, unpaved dirt roads and the collection of buildings-- most of them obviously wooden-- sitting side-by-side along either side of the road.

More observant residents may notice that the nearer they come to the town, the more people that look up and notice, and subsequently hurry off or head inside. And even if you didn't notice it as you closed in, it sure becomes apparent once you step under the archway of the town; there's no one around. The tumbleweed that rolls by almost seems to be mocking the residents.

Another thing that becomes apparent is the state of the town. Besides having gone eerily quiet, some of the buildings have been wrecked. There are gouges in the wood, where it hasn't been punched through or torn apart. Rails are broken, and a few of them even have damaged or missing doors.

So what happens to you when we go to the fake other worlds? Like Hogwarts. Are you allowed to talk about that?

You mean the fake worlds that are in Nostos already? I wasn't in Draconis long enough to go through one of those. Some of the others talked about it, though. Said they just got sent there for like, a week, then woke up in the castle when it was all over.

[Draconis... Which one was that again? He'll have to ask somebody]

Yeah, that's usually how it works. Which is weird enough, except some of those places pop up in Nostos later. Like my camp from home is on the map now.

Camp Half-Blood? You know it?

Really? Man that must be so trippy. I've always wondered if my school was here, but I haven't seen it yet.

[He nods] It's uhhh up North.

Should I ask? Would that jinx us and send us there next?

I got nooooo idea, bro. What's your castle like? I mean, is it super vindictive or really nice? Would it send you somewhere you want to go?

I think it's both sometimes. It can send us somewhere cool, but then something really horrible happens. At least with my camp, hellhound attacks are pretty common.

[hotdate]

Wow. It sounds like you castle can't make up its mind.

But who am I to judge? Mine went insane.

[Percy decides he doesn't want to know how that worked out] So you left and ran into the doc?

[hotdate]

The Doc was in Draconis too, we all were. All of us escaped together.

Ohh, gotcha. So you guys have journals like ours?

[hotdate]

Yeah, but they've never worked with anyone else's journals here. Aside from being a little scorched around the edges, it's pretty weird. [He'll pull out his own from his pocket. It looks identical to the Paradisan journals, with Heath's name emblazoned on the front]

[he takes out his own to compare. And just to see what happens, he writes "Hi, Heath" in his own journal]

[Heath holds his own journal open to show the empty page, nothing appearing at all]

See? A whole heap of nadda.

Did it used to work or was it always blank?

[hotdate]

Oh yeah, they work for all of us. They just don't work with your journals.

Or anyone else we've come across who aren't from Draconis.

Wild! So the journals are connected only to the castle they came from!

Looks that way, bro. At least that's how it works with ours, anyway.

Do you guys have an extra one of those? I know a lot of the research types would love to see it.

[The dead guys journals, for sure, but Heath isn't too willing to stoop that low. He's a creep, to be sure, but not a terrible creature. So, after a moment of consideration, he hands his over]

I guess you can use this one. We never use them to talk to each other now, anyway.

[It's probably still got a little ash mushed into the pages, sorry bro]
