[This afternoon, the quirky merriment at Terre Haute has something very sudden cutting its way in. There's the very distinct sound of an explosion. It shakes the ground with a small tremor for but a brief moment. Those who are looking at a certain monolith in the distance may see that there is now smoke coming from it, parts of it crumbling and tearing away as black smoke begin to fill the air.

Something's happening at that strange "thing" that fell from the sky. But what? Dare you disregard the unsettling feeling that may begin to steadily fill the air?]

[Wash can see that, and he's watching for a clean opening in the creatures' defenses... Though, if he gets a few moments, he has a second knife he'd offer Carolina.

He stabbed into a claw on his, making sure to keep a good hold to pull it back out of the arm.]

[Carolina does what she can to make an opening in the creature's defenses with her quick movements in and out of reach. As Wash pulls his knife out, she makes sure to cover him and swings a kick into a Collector who was about to get within claw's reach of the other agent.]

[And when he saw that hole in the defenses, he stabbed, without a bit of hesitation. He's trusting her explicitly with his back and it shows.]

[It's weird how smoothly they run, despite her anger at her team and the years separating them. She doesn't take note of it as she fights, focusing on not getting either of them killed. Their current system seems to be working as long as they don't get overwhelmed, but as three Collectors close around the duo, she's not sure they'll be able to take that many at once.

Doesn't stop her from kicking sharply toward the one nearest her, the edge of her foot connecting with what could be its jaw and wrenching its head upwards.]

[Stabbing another, slashing into it.] I have another knife, if you can get me breathing space to get it out for you, Carolina.

[Carolina grunts in response as she reaches out for the clawed arms of two of the Collectors to tug them toward each other. It pulls them out of reach of Wash, but puts both of them in very close reach to her and it shows as she's unable to jump out and one of their claws slice through the black undersuit covering her forearm as it's outstretched in a punch.]

[He's getting the second knife out, crying out at seeing her take that slash, stabbing the claw that sliced her, trying to put the second knife into range for her.] Here.

[Carolina clutches at her arm for a second or two before she reaches back for the knife and quickly shoves it into one of the two Collectors' eyes, enough to at least put down one of those sets of claws. The other, though, is reaching for her again, swinging out.]

[While it's swinging at her, Wash is slamming his fist into the collector, following up with a knife stab.]

[Meanwhile, that third one is getting ready to attack the two of them...until its upper torso inexplicably shatters as if pierced by a bullet.

Only there's no "as if" about it. York, looking angry, has been packing heat.

He doesn't say anything, though, going back to face the mass of creatures and judiciously choosing between picking them off with bullets when they get too close to people or running in closer for a little knifework. He's admittedly being a little more reckless than usual, but even out here Delta's helping him stay calm.]

[The crack of his gun snaps Carolina's attention to him in an instant and anger heats up her chest, boiling up through her. She didn't want his fucking help and here he has to be on the same fucking battlefield. Reckless? Oh yeah, she'll be getting into that to, if just to try and prove to everyone that she can and will take down as many of these Collectors as possible.

So, logically, she'll be diving into a deeper mess of creatures, more than fine with leaving Wash and York to buddy up.]

[Rather than going buddy up with York, Wash joins her, throwing himself into the fray after her. One of the Collector's takes advantage of it, giving him a slash to the side before he can avoid it, biting back a pained cry. But he's not stopping or giving in.]

[Fine. FINE. York will head toward them and pick off a couple more with his gun - the ones closer to Wash, while he keeps himself busy dodging or taking minor blows from the ones near him. Then he gets distracted and has to take out his knife again to deal with the crush.]

[Carolina spins at the sound of Wash's cry, making her prime striking territory and another set of claws rake through her as she reaches out to slice down the one attacking Wash, only for it to go down with a bullet from York. She just can't focus with him there even as she tries to ignore him. Her knife slices into the eye of another Collector, but there's still too many to handle at once.] Get out of here.

I'm not leaving without you, Carolina. [Slashing into the one in front of him. He isn't that badly injured. He can keep fighting. Or at least, that's what he's telling himself.]

[Oh, is she talking to York? Cause apparently he can't hear her through the hordes of alien invaders. But now he's looking fairly surrounded, so he tries to make a tactical retreat back toward the main crowd a little....]

[As she fights, she notices York making that tactical retreat and she can't help but somehow feel more angry than before. Her anger nearly blinds her, but she barks out.] Wash, cover him.

[Looking to realize how much trouble York is in. He's pulling back, ignoring the bleeding wound to jump onto on of the ones going for York, stabbing it in the back.]

[York's only taken a few shallow cuts, but there are some nasty-looking welts on his right side that will probably be very painful bruises later. Still, it's pretty clear that all his training recently hasn't just been a way to keep his mind off things, as he's handling himself pretty well. A little help goes a long way, though, and York takes the sudden opportunity to stab another one in what looks like a weak spot.]

Thanks! But get back to her. I got this.

[She's not doing super great with crazy levels of anger and without Wash's extra help, so she's drawing back just a little, enough to at least try to cover both of them, but she's getting ripped to shreds in the process and she doesn't seem to give a fuck.]

[Wash turns back to her, throwing himself into it harder when he realized how bad they were getting her. He stabs another viciously, ignoring the blood running down his side and the wound he just took to his arm.] Carolina...

[Meanwhile, York manages to catch a lull in the action and empties his clip to get rid of the ones not immediately close enough to Carolina and Wash but close enough that they could cause a problem for them in the near future. That should let them deal with the ones in their immediate vicinity, although now his gun's going to be useless until he can get enough of a break to reload.]

[Carolina's not sure how many clawmarks she's going to have on her coming out of this, but she's grateful for at least some of the relief provided by Wash. He's bleeding so heavily, though, she can't ignore that, she can't let him get himself killed because she's pissed off. So, with that bit of cover, she continues to retreat back just a little toward the main line of fighters before resuming her knifework.]

[He's relieved as he realizes she's pulling back, starting to pull back himself. Wash knows he's wounded. He just doesn't know how bad it is really. He's too caught up with adrenaline. Stabbing, slashing, fighting, and the occasional pained noise he can't hold back.]

[Adrenaline is a wonderful thing. It's what's keeping York in this fight, and finally he judges the action has slowed down enough to reload. But as he's slamming in another clip, he seems to be missing the Collector coming up on him from behind....]
