[This afternoon, the quirky merriment at Terre Haute has something very sudden cutting its way in. There's the very distinct sound of an explosion. It shakes the ground with a small tremor for but a brief moment. Those who are looking at a certain monolith in the distance may see that there is now smoke coming from it, parts of it crumbling and tearing away as black smoke begin to fill the air.

Something's happening at that strange "thing" that fell from the sky. But what? Dare you disregard the unsettling feeling that may begin to steadily fill the air?]

I'm not leaving without you, Carolina. [Slashing into the one in front of him. He isn't that badly injured. He can keep fighting. Or at least, that's what he's telling himself.]

[Oh, is she talking to York? Cause apparently he can't hear her through the hordes of alien invaders. But now he's looking fairly surrounded, so he tries to make a tactical retreat back toward the main crowd a little....]

[As she fights, she notices York making that tactical retreat and she can't help but somehow feel more angry than before. Her anger nearly blinds her, but she barks out.] Wash, cover him.

[Looking to realize how much trouble York is in. He's pulling back, ignoring the bleeding wound to jump onto on of the ones going for York, stabbing it in the back.]

[York's only taken a few shallow cuts, but there are some nasty-looking welts on his right side that will probably be very painful bruises later. Still, it's pretty clear that all his training recently hasn't just been a way to keep his mind off things, as he's handling himself pretty well. A little help goes a long way, though, and York takes the sudden opportunity to stab another one in what looks like a weak spot.]

Thanks! But get back to her. I got this.

[She's not doing super great with crazy levels of anger and without Wash's extra help, so she's drawing back just a little, enough to at least try to cover both of them, but she's getting ripped to shreds in the process and she doesn't seem to give a fuck.]

[Wash turns back to her, throwing himself into it harder when he realized how bad they were getting her. He stabs another viciously, ignoring the blood running down his side and the wound he just took to his arm.] Carolina...

[Meanwhile, York manages to catch a lull in the action and empties his clip to get rid of the ones not immediately close enough to Carolina and Wash but close enough that they could cause a problem for them in the near future. That should let them deal with the ones in their immediate vicinity, although now his gun's going to be useless until he can get enough of a break to reload.]

[Carolina's not sure how many clawmarks she's going to have on her coming out of this, but she's grateful for at least some of the relief provided by Wash. He's bleeding so heavily, though, she can't ignore that, she can't let him get himself killed because she's pissed off. So, with that bit of cover, she continues to retreat back just a little toward the main line of fighters before resuming her knifework.]

[He's relieved as he realizes she's pulling back, starting to pull back himself. Wash knows he's wounded. He just doesn't know how bad it is really. He's too caught up with adrenaline. Stabbing, slashing, fighting, and the occasional pained noise he can't hold back.]

[Adrenaline is a wonderful thing. It's what's keeping York in this fight, and finally he judges the action has slowed down enough to reload. But as he's slamming in another clip, he seems to be missing the Collector coming up on him from behind....]

[Carolina glances back York's way just to see where the main line is when she sees that Collector move up on York. She can't fight back the instinct that pushes her to vault over a Collector that just went down and she leaps up for a two-footed kick, with all of her momentum behind it. Just as it's about to slice into York, her kick knocks the Collector over and she proceeds to stab it rapidly and viciously with Wash's knife.]

[Wash is pulling back as quick as he can, fighting as he goes, realizing he's getting tired and even more sloppy... He can't afford a mortal wound. No one can. Not out here.

One of the collectors is trying to grab him, just to get swiped at. But it's not really enough to deter the creature.]

[York, for his part, whips around as soon as he hears something behind him--only to find Carolina there, going postal on one of the things. His eyes widen, but before he can say or do anything there's Wash not looking so hot against one more of the aliens. He's reloaded now, though, so he shoots at its head.

Except for the one that was sneaking up behind him, though, this area really does seem to be thinning out for the moment. Good.]

[Carolina barely spares a glance up at York, meeting his gaze with a small measure of regret before turning to help Wash. He's bleeding a lot heavier than she thought he was a moment ago. Still, they are making progress and Carolina doesn't even need that as a reason to get up and keep fighting. She moves quickly back toward the Collectors around Wash and starts ripping into them.]

Thanks.

[At least they're getting them off of him. Even if Carolina doesn't want to be team... She's still willing to protect him. And York... Though that may be habit.]

[York, for his part, seems to be angry more than anything else but at least this is a good outlet for that. Their immediate perimeter seems clear, though he's keeping his battle pose.]

Shit. How bad is it, Wash?

[...Not that he's going to win any beauty contests himself, with a dozen minor scratches and a huge red welt across his face.]

[Carolina glances back at Wash before she moves up toward the group of Collectors, to guarantee to give Wash more space. She trusts York enough to not kill Wash by not properly administering First Aid. She's got a number of gashes herself, a couple that would need stitches, but she's not bleeding out like Wash is.]

[Glaring down at the injury as her starts checking the side wound.] It could be worse. It's not that deep. I should have been more careful.

Any chance you can get a band-aid on it before these things regroup?

[There are still plenty of them, but with a little lull in the action York figures he can cover Wash for a while.]

I'll cover. [Carolina is somewhat listening to the conversation as she slices into another Collector more than a few yards from them. Luckily York's voice is pretty distinctive.]

I don't know about a band-aid, but I'll see what I can do for now...

[At least he'd made sure to keep first aid supplies on him, just in case. He's quickly digging for something to deal with this.]

I got your back.

[He keeps alert while Wash gets out the first aid, but it seems like Carolina is doing well enough for the moment. He does shoot two more that seem to be getting closer, though York's aware his ammo isn't unlimited.]

[Carolina takes down another Collector and goes for one of the closer ones before York takes it out.] Save your ammo.

[Especially since the group is thinning further.]

[While those two are covering him, Wash is going to spend his time at least trying to deal with the bleeding. That's the most important thing for the moment...

Hopefully they don't start bickering while he's working.]
