Winchester/Fairfield Expedition - Camping

[After a long day of traveling over the hilly, grassy grounds of Nostos after a quick trip in the TARDIS, the sun is slowly starting to inch its way down to the horizon, the light catching on the clouds and making quite a spectacular sunset view. It's time to halt the traveling and rest the animals, get those tents pitched and crack out the canned foods. You're pretty deep into the Dead Zone, now, and stretched before you are rolling plains, with the only foliage being the golden grasses and some shrubbery. The air seems quite a bit warmer than it was in Paradisa as well. It is not an empty plains, though; buffalo roam the area, generally pretty tranquil as they graze on the grasses, sometimes lifting their heads to look curiously at the residents. Well. If they had eyes, that is.]

THE GROUNDS

[Maybe you're a vigilant volunteer who's taken up the night watch and is scouting the area for any signs of danger, maybe you're just one of the people curious about the scenery or animals, or maybe you're just one of those loners who can't find enough privacy within your tent. There's always at least one of you!]

[Meg happily volunteers for the night watch. She might need to sleep eventually, but she's used to staying up all night and if the dead zone is going to affect her energy levels, she's certainly not feeling it yet.

She's got her books to keep her company and plenty of weapons to keep everyone safe if a threat arises. She scopes out some higher ground and lays out a blanket she had rolled up and brought along to lounge on while she keeps an eye out.

Without her powers she's feeling a lot more vulnerable than usual, so she wouldn't be opposed to some company.]

I should have known you'll be volunteering.

[Lara has her shotgun in one hand, and the other hand on her hip.]

[Meg looked up from her book and grinned, squinting into the low sunlight and shading her eyes with one hand.]

Damn right you should have. Do I even need to ask?

Haha, no.

[Lara stood beside her and looked to the sun. She can do that apparently, she has sunglasses on]

How different is your Earth from this place? I'm just curious.

I mean, not much. There's places that look like this. Deserts, open plains, that kind of thing. But this place is just... off. It's a little too pretty, if you know what I mean. I'm used to their being old, run-down, abandoned places just about everywhere... there doesn't seem to be much of anything like that here. It gives me the creeps.

Yes. I agree. I've seen many beautiful, breathtaking places. But this place, this world, it's just too good to be true.

You've got that right. It probably just reserves all the ugly for biting you in the ass when you least expect it.

That's my analysis of this world so far. When I first heard of the name Paradisa, I've always known there would be a catch... It's always something, heh.

Always something is right. That's even the case where I'm from, but it seems even more extreme here.

[Lara took some binoculars to look at the surrounding areas while there was still light left]

I have to make sure we're alone in here. If those bug creatures really have spread out, we should expect them to be everywhere in the Dead Zone.

Yeah. [She paused, not really sure how to elaborate without mentioning most angels being dicks... and that was a whoooooole other conversation.] People are rarely what they seem to be where I come from. It's just plain stupid to trust anyone.

[Meg squinted and let her eyes flash while Lara wasn't looking. She could see just fine in the dark when she let them go black, so she'd know if anything tried to ambush the camp.]

I figured as much.

[Percy would be the first of those, though he's expecting Katniss to stay up with him. He also has to check to make sure the horses are still doing okay]

[Of course Katniss is staying up with him for the first watch. So when the sun starts to dip down, she ambles by his tent.]

Am I walking you to the horses for my first go-around?

I haven't heard any of them being nervous. So as long as it stays quiet, they'll be fine for a while.

Well, small blessings I suppose. Want to take a few rounds with me, before one of us catches some sleep?

[She thought it would probably be Percy well before her.]

You take one ende of the camp, I take another. In two hours we can switch.

[Steph's idly walking around, keeping an eye on things.

Really, she's just bored. Every now and then she whistles a few random notes.

[Oh look, it's your shadow. Cass comes up behind Steph as she's writing, frowning at this strange thing she's doing.]

[So why isn't he taking the notes and highlighting important things and being the nerdy one? So strange...]

[Katniss always took a first watch, and sometimes a second. Sleep was usually nightmares so guard duty was a welcome exchange. She walked the perimeter, bow in her hand, quiver on her back and her knife on her hip.]
