[This afternoon, the quirky merriment at Terre Haute has something very sudden cutting its way in. There's the very distinct sound of an explosion. It shakes the ground with a small tremor for but a brief moment. Those who are looking at a certain monolith in the distance may see that there is now smoke coming from it, parts of it crumbling and tearing away as black smoke begin to fill the air.
Something's happening at that strange "thing" that fell from the sky. But what? Dare you disregard the unsettling feeling that may begin to steadily fill the air?]

How fast are they coming, and what's the wind like? [She asked, almost conversationally, as she whispered 'hello' to her bow. Yes, she'd brought out her special baby for this particular journey. The bow vibrated to life, under her touch.]

[This was all his first judgement towards it. His eyes were sharp and he could see a fair distance away but the smoke make some things difficult to determine. It would help with keeping track of the wind at least.]
The situation may change quickly though.

[She pursed her lips, testing the wind, before she said quietly.] I'm Katniss, by the way. [Might as well know the person you might possibly die with.]
no subject
Well met, Katniss. I am Legolas. [Neither of them would die if he could help it.]
no subject
Nice to meet you, Legolas. [She tilted her shot up, to make for the resistance on the air.]
no subject
A shame that we had to meet in such circumstances. [Legolas did the same, firing an arrow as he felt one drew too close.]
no subject
Well, there will be plenty of time to get re-acquainted when we're not fighting for our lives. Nice shot, by the way.

All too easily, the memory of fighting is coming back to him. And the careful ease that they talk is a welcome familiarity. He was almost tempted to try to make a competition of it.]
Very true.

[...She might have been keeping score. In her head.]

... even if his were amazing. She made a note to ask him for some tips on how to shoot more ... elvenly.]

He'd be glad to, it's easy: Be an elf.
Okay no, he can probably give her some tips.
As one gets too close and he's taking another arrow to shoot, he jams it through the insects eye and watches it drop before knocking back the semi-used arrow and firing. Tip number one: arrows are good for more than just shooting!]

[She wasn't sure she was going to have enough arrows -- but at least she had her hunting knife strapped to her.]
no subject
[This is the elf that fought at Helm's Deep. It would take an equal force to worry him.]

[She all but muttered, but her shots rang true, one after another. As if her confidence smoothed out any nerves she might have had. Not that she had any.]

[So yes, he has. Tucking his bow away, Legolas draws his long knives and works with them, movements quick and almost practiced. They were heavier than the white knives he'd had at home but they worked as they needed them too.]

[Katniss drew her hunting knife as they started to get thicker - but not nearly as many were left in the charge. She stepped back, putting her back to Legolas's so she could use her bow to knock the creatures down and the knife to take them out.]
