[This afternoon, the quirky merriment at Terre Haute has something very sudden cutting its way in. There's the very distinct sound of an explosion. It shakes the ground with a small tremor for but a brief moment. Those who are looking at a certain monolith in the distance may see that there is now smoke coming from it, parts of it crumbling and tearing away as black smoke begin to fill the air.

Something's happening at that strange "thing" that fell from the sky. But what? Dare you disregard the unsettling feeling that may begin to steadily fill the air?]

[And of course, Dairine is gonna run after him.]

Conan! Wait!

No time for that!

[He wanted to see what this was.]

No, Conan--! Ugh, you idiot.

[Muttering darkly, she dashes after him, hoping to catch up. Why did he have to act so dumb if he was so smart? ~~Good question, Dairine.~~]

[Unfortunately, without his skateboard Conan simply couldn't move very fast. It was his short child's legs. He had to take nearly two steps for every one step an adult would take. It shouldn't take long for his follower to catch up.]

[Especially not at the speed Dairine is going. She's a fast enough walker; her running takes almost no time at all to reach him. Once she's caught up, she reaches out to grab onto the back of his shirt to slow him down. Her other arm wraps around his torso in an attempt to restrain him.

Good luck shrugging her off.]

[He sputters.]

Dairine! Let me go!

Forget it, Conan! You can't go charging in there without a plan. We don't even know what is in there!

Which is why I need to investigate! [One of the things he hated the most about being stuck in a child's body was how easy it was for other people to manhandle him.]

[Dairine wanted to know just as badly, but exploring alone was generally unwise in the Dead Zone. Especially for people who are so easily manhandled.]

[Wait, what? He starts to struggle again, desperately wishing that even one of his gadgets worked right now.]

O-Oi! What do you think you're doing?

[Struggle all you like. She's not letting go.]

And I don't see any point in it. Let me go. [It was more of a demand than a request.]

No point? [Dairine stops to turn and look Conan in the eye, her hands still firmly gripping his jacket lest he try to bolt.]

Listen here, punk, since it seems your ears were clogged when I said it before: we don't know what's in there. That ship could be abandoned or armed, peaceful or hostile. We don't know. What we need is to be prepared for any situation. Which means being armed and ready in case we're attacked. And I hate to break it to you, Conan, but brains aside, out here you are just another kid. Your gadgets don't work, remember? So even if you've managed to smuggle a soccer ball somewhere, you're still as good as unarmed.

[He glares.]

I am not just going to go and stay somewhere safe just because my gadgets aren't working right now. I have never let that stop me before,
