Terre Haute

[Today, our intrepid explorers have finally made it to Terre Haute. It’s mostly grassland, and on the outskirts small spotted lions, about the size of leopards prowl around. They seem to be more interested in the strange antelope running around than in any people, however. Towards the edge, lies a cliff face, looking out to sea, on occasion giant whales can be seen breaching the water.

Of the weird thing they came to look for, in the distance is a cylindrical shape, lying on its side. But between them and it is a strange village. One made up of excessively tall wooden huts, all of which have electric lights, turned on, though how they’re creating such power is a mystery, they are still very much inside the dead zone.

The residents of this off little village are wandering around, going about their buisess. The residents being a group of bemused looking giraffes. Perhaps you will even see some familiar non-giraffe faces milling about.

Several times. But my lack of surprise is because Paradisa has taken my vision from me, not because of the Dead Zone.

We should start with the deer first, so we will be sure to have meat. Then we may try the cats if you want a challenge.

Si, si. I cannot imagine the flesh of the cats would be all that good for eating, so we will take that challenge after we have sated the bellies of all our fellow travelers.

[He shakes his head.] It will probably be fine, and the hide will be useful, regardless.

[But he gestures toward the antelope anyway.]

I do not have bait, so we will need to instead be stealthy.

You bother with bait? [Colour him surprised.] I'd just shoot them.

[He frowns.] They will see you unless you have the proper cover. It is better to use a blade -- it is quicker, and will not do as much damage to the hide.

What do you intend to do with the hide here? I doubt there are any who would barter for it...

I would bring it back with me. I do not think the... villagers... here would have anything to barter, anyway.

It seems a lot to carry, though.

It will be less once everyone here has had their fill.

True, I suppose, but I would only bring back whatever has great value. There are plenty of animals about.

Yes, but why kill them if you do not have to? There should be a reason for death, even if it is an animal.

To hunt only for the sake of hunting is pointless.

I do not find enjoyment in taking lives, even those of animals. It is simply what must be done.

[He gestures widely at the animals, frowning.]

They are living things. It is disrespectful to them and to whatever god created them to kill them thoughtlessly.

It isn't thoughtless. It is for entertainment, for sport.

How is this not thoughtless? Animals are not created for your amusement, Ezio.

Connor, do not moralize at me. If you truly believe that animals were created by God as living things that deserve respect as humans do, then you would not kill them even for food.

Do you think your god just dropped animals onto the Earth without thought? They are here because they have a purpose, just like you and me and everyone else. It is the animal's purpose to provide us food from their meat and clothing from their skin, just as it is the purpose of plants to provide us with medicine and food and weapons.

To treat an animal as simple sport is to disrespect the Creator and the gifts he has given us. It is ungrateful.
