Terre Haute

[Today, our intrepid explorers have finally made it to Terre Haute. It’s mostly grassland, and on the outskirts small spotted lions, about the size of leopards prowl around. They seem to be more interested in the strange antelope running around than in any people, however. Towards the edge, lies a cliff face, looking out to sea, on occasion giant whales can be seen breaching the water.

Of the weird thing they came to look for, in the distance is a cylindrical shape, lying on its side. But between them and it is a strange village. One made up of excessively tall wooden huts, all of which have electric lights, turned on, though how they’re creating such power is a mystery, they are still very much inside the dead zone.

The residents of this off little village are wandering around, going about their buisess. The residents being a group of bemused looking giraffes. Perhaps you will even see some familiar non-giraffe faces milling about.

[ Hi there Tsuna, James'll bob his head in a nod. Sorry, bro, you're not his first choice for fending off lions. In fact he's almost sure if they wander over here he'll have to defend Tsuna from them but he'll just stick over here and hopefully they'll keep ignoring both of them.

You know, I never did find out why you turn into a deer out here. Is it a loss thing...?

Well, I guess you probably wouldn't really know.

[ Oh he knows exactly why, and he'd be glad to explain, but... he shakes his head, trying to draw attention to the scroll he's got hung around his neck. Foresight from a lovely lady that helped him draft up a chart of the alphabet and simple common words to point out to people as a way of talking. ]

[He notices it! And blinks and sort of bends over a little to the side to look at it.]

What's this?

[ A sigh shoving his head forward to try to get Tsuna to take it. ]

--ah? Oh! You want me to take it off.

[GOOD JOB TSUNA you have learned basic body language. He reaches out and takes it, unrolling it.]

Ah, this is...!

[staggeringego]

[ Took him long enough. James stands still while Tsuna grabs it, and once he's unrolled it he taps a hoof on the ground indicating Tsuna should put it down so he can spell out words for him. ]

Oh, I see! This is how you communicate out here...

[He kneels down and sets down the paper, keeping a hand on one end to keep it from rolling back up.]

[ Reaching out with a hoof to awkwardly tap the "yes" written on it before pulling his leg back. ]

That's pretty smart.

[He looks at James.]

What can you do as a deer anyway? [He looks at him.] You look pretty strong... do you know how to fight like that?

[staggeringego]

[ A sigh at that question. Fighting with deer? Sure. Defending himself against something smaller one on one? Not too much of a challenge. The hooves are sharp and those antlers aren't something to be trifled with but they've got nothing on magic.

He takes a moment to tap out his reply here, pausing between his words to indicate completion and hitting up the words on the chart when he can.

Ah, well... I just meant, if something happens out here, do you think you could defend yourself? Or... well, I guess you could run. Deer are pretty fast.

[ Stamping his hoof down into the dirt and raising his head up. Of course he can defend himself and others too if need be. Sure he doesn't have his magic, but he's not useless. ]
