paradisabeyond | Terre Haute Expedition: Paradisa Town

[After a long few days of traveling, the expedition team has reached past it's halfway point! And as such, they decide to make rest at a place that had once been the target of a previous expedition:]

[A small cutesy village that once served as a world change location, it has now been abandoned of all it's previous residents. Though it's condition hardly looks like a place that hasn't been lived in for years- instead it has the condition that everyone just stepped out for awhile. There are more than enough small houses to fit everyone, so it's a nice break from sleeping on the ground (for some anyway). It's also a good place to stock up if you're one of those explorers that forgot things such as food and spare clothing. That is, if you don't mind peaches and fish and really gaudy clothing.]

Cair Draconis? Another castle...?

Ah, yes...that's where the virus came from?

Oh, right...

... why the heck would they bring a virus like that all the way here, though?

I'd imagine to try to contain it somehow...maybe so it wouldn't infect the rest of their region?

It's impossible to say for sure. Either way, I'd rather avoid that region if we can.

Not like we can get over there now anyway, since the bridge is gone.

Mm, it's true.

[He'll smile]

How are you so far? This is your second trip, right?

Yeah, that's right. I wasn't really prepared the first time, but... I've been working on fighting without my powers since then.

But, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't still feeling nervous about it. [A sigh.] Fighting in Hyper Dying Will Mode seems so much easier.

[He'll nod, listening]

I can understand that. My first few years here, every time I was expected to be without powers was nerve-wracking. I barely knew how to fight without them.

[He nods.] Yeah, I've never fought outside of Hyper Dying Will Mode before. [He pauses, then looks at Allen.] It's not just being without the power, either. When I'm in that mode... I'm not afraid of fighting. I guess my mindset's kind of.. more confident?

Outside of it, it's... [Scary, nerve-wracking. He's barely even fought seriously with his dagger. He has no idea how well he'll hold up in a battle.]

...It's scary.

[a sigh; he's really not sure how he feels about a weapon that represses emotions like that. Then again, maybe it's just a bit like Krory] Fighting is supposed to be scary. It's that fear of battle that helps keep a person alive, after all. I mean, it's important to make sure your fear doesn't control you- but it's not bad to have it.

People who aren't even a little afraid...well, that's not a good thing at all.

It can be a little scary, sometimes. But I feel level-headed, too, so it's not like it overwhelms me or anything.

I've always hated fighting, but... it's really the only thing I'm good at.

What is it that you're scared of...I mean, that makes it overwhelming?

If you don't mind me asking, of course.

There's a lot of things. I don't really have a good tolerance for pain, and I don't really have much experience fighting seriously with a dagger. Especially not against wild animals. And then fighting itself is just really stressful. It's so fast-paced and it's hard to keep track of everything.

Back at the castle I can use my Hyper Intuition to help me keep up with things, to help me fight, but I don't think it works out here.

Hmm...well fighting with daggers is never actually easy. They are so little and meant for people with great speed. Honestly, I know how to use throwing knives but I try to avoid using them if I don't have to.

Have you ever thought about maybe a long range weapon instead for you?

A long range weapon? L-like a gun or something?

[Somehow this seems even more alarming than fighting close combat, with a little knife.]

Ah, yes. A gun one type. There's also bows, crossbows, slings...all sorts of things.

[But guns are like... mafia.]

I-I don't know..

Why not?

[He shakes his head. Those things are scary and lethal. What if he missed? What if somebody got in the way? At least at such close proximity he felt like he had much more control.]

I think I'd just rather stick to what I've been learning.

[Hmmm?]

Ah...well, all right.

But remember, it's good to know multiple weapons. Sometimes simply a dagger won't cut it.

Yeah, I know. Well... I hope it'll be enough for this time around, at least.

Mm. I hope we won't need any weapons at all.

Yeah, me too. [Even if that's not very likely.]

Mm.

And if you ever change your mind- I'm good with a crossbow! I could probably show you how!
