Terre Haute expedition: Camping Day 1

[It's been a more or less uneventful day of travel for the expedition team. Not unexpected for the first leg of such a trip, and with any luck, it will stay that way.

As the sun starts to get low in the sky, Felix signals the group with a sharp whistle to stop, shortly after he feels the change. They've entered the Dead Zone. That sudden loss of power for anyone used to that sort of thing. Not an easy thing to adjust to, at first.]

"We've crossed into the border of the Dead Zone now. We should stop here for the night. Those of you with experience, help set up camp as needed. And I recommend a few of you working out a watch schedule. You never can tell what might be out here."

[ She laughs but doesn't say anything. Should be obvious enough. ]

[He shakes his head. Be careful about walking that line with her, Spike.

This ought to be a fun trip.]

I should probably keep that from getting out.

It is not fair, when I have shared mine own cares with you.

I always did have a problem with manners.

[Seriously though, what broke in him that he can't even flirt properly...]

[ No kidding. That only makes her more sure he's been heartbroken over a woman, though. As she told him, she recognizes these signs.

But she doesn't care, continuing on anyway. ]

So you keep saying. Perhaps you just need a woman to properly teach you.

[He needs to do some soul searching to get to the meaning of this. Maybe while everyone is busy telling stories around a campfire.]

Is this where you mention that you like a challenge?

I am attempting to reform the entire castle to my rule... What should you gather from that?

You have to admire a woman with ambition.

I dare not admire myself, for that would be the sin of pride.

You've got some pretty strict rules.

They are not mine, but the Lord's. Whatever my title, my thoughts, my conquests... I am still but a mortal woman. I live, I serve, I love, and I die.

[ Turning her head the barest amount, not quite looking at him though her gaze is in that direction, she offers a shadowy smile before strolling on, back towards where they came from, whether he follows or not. ]

[That ended on a somber note. Spike watches her leave for several seconds before he shakes that train of thought. Religion has always seemed foreign to him, so maybe he doesn't really get it.

In any case, he decides to stay nearby, for lack of other ideas. He can at least pretend to be doing his job.]
