[Good evening, explorers! After departing from Cair Paradisa, the path was south at first, but turned west fairly early on. Skirting well south of Eldritch Forest, the travelers had camped near the edge of the Amber Steppe, not quite within sight of the forest that marks the Totem Coast. The grasses are parched brown by the heat, though greener patches mark the presence of water. It's near one of these - a small, bubbling stream leading west that Raine has chosen to follow as it will almost certainly run into the river marked on her map - that the travelers have made their camp.

The carts and wagons are arranged in a defensive circle, though the campers are free to set up their tents outside them as well as inside wher ethe rest of them are. There are small cooking fires scattered around as well as a large bonfire in the center for socializing.

Play music? Sing? Teach those poor non-Earth kids how to make s'mores? Or just sit around and socialize with others.

Or hide in your tent and ignore everyone, if you really want to.]

[She takes a while to respond, staring at her own wiggling toes as she tries to think of the best way to put it. Finally, she just tells the simple truth.]

Elemental Spirits.

[Oh hey, ... he actually starts wondering why shes taking so long instead of disregarding it --could it be a touchy subject?]

Elemental as in...

[It's sort of a touchy subject, but the hesitation is mainly because Sheena doesn't know exactly how to explain the Summons to people not from her world.]

Elemental as in the elements: Fire, Ice, Water, and several others.

[She blinks and the wiggling stops.]

Do you know about things like that?

[shrugs_a_lot]

I dunno, but those are the same elements I know. ... Plus the Elemental Materia but I doubt you're talking about that.

Lemme guess, you were on a quest to find them and save your world. [He's SO kidding, and tossing that out there because it sounds silly! Even though it's exactly what he's been doing in his own world. If he was just someone else, he would probably laugh at that.]

Materia? What's that? [It's actually kind of nice talking to someone who understands what she's saying.]

Actually, no. But you're kinda close. I was on a quest with my friends to save TWO worlds. [She can be a smart-ass, too.]

[shrugs_a_lot]

[Give him a moment, he's fishing something from his pocket.]

Two, huh? [Now that honestly sounds cool, now that they are there away from those problems only, putting it on perspective. If he was still at home, he wouldn't think that's indeed too nice to have so much responsibility. Either way, please elaborate?]

[She's thinking it's more food, so she doesn't say anything.]

Yeah. The story's pretty complicated. The two worlds were originally one thousands of years ago, but we didn't know that as we began severing the links formed by the Summon Spirits that kept them connected to each other. Why they were still connected is also complicated, but we continued getting the Summon Spirits to help us and eventually came to the one who had originally created the item used to split the world. After I made a pact with the Spirit--called Origin--he recreated the item for us. It's called the Eternal Sword and only my friend Lloyd can wield it, and he used it rejoin the worlds.

[Elaboration, yet still unclear. "Complicated" really doesn't do the story justice. And any pride he hears in that last sentence is over Lloyd's achievement and not for anything she had done.]

[shrugs_a_lot]

[Complicated... Yeah, he knew the implications of that word, and he'd rather not go too deep into that, really.]

How did you get involved?

Me? Uh, well-- [Sheena's does a pretty good impersonation of Samantha from "Bewitched" as she hesitates telling him.]

I was sent to assassinate Colette.

But she's my friend now! I-- I couldn't kill her after seeing how nice she was, and how much she was needed.

[shrugs_a_lot]

[He simply nods.]

[She blinks--a little surprised that he's not asking her more about it.]

Have-- Have you met Colette?

[shrugs_a_lot]

No. Why?

Oh. Since you didn't ask anything else, I thought maybe you had and knew just how nice she is.

[Pauses.]

Maybe I should have mentioned that she's one of the friends from home that's here, too.

[WHOOPS.]

[shrugs_a_lot]

[Shakes his head a bit.]

I assumed that she was.

Oh yeah. I guess that would have been obvious, huh?

[Yep, her simple-mindedness is showing.]

[shrugs_a_lot]

[Guess what? He shrugs.]

Obvious or not it was obvious she means a lot to you if you didn't kill her in the end.

[She's not surprised.]

Well, it's a bit complicated to explain, but people were suffering, and if Colette didn't do what she had to, it would have continued.

I couldn't stand that happening.

[Yep. She's a rebel; defied her orders from the King and Pope.]

[She's lost in thought for a moment before she answers.]

Yeah?

[shrugs_a_lot]

You don't need to explain.

Thanks. [A beat as she watches him search his pocket.]

What are you looking for?

[shrugs_a_lot]

[Oh, right, he was looking for something... Takes his hand out of his pocket and shows her a little green orb. It looks as if made of frosted glass in the inside; it looks dull though, as it should have an inner glow when outside the Dead Zone. Not that he'll say anything about it.]

Materia.

Materia? [She leans in closer to peer at it.]

It kind of looks like a pearl. Is it one?

[shrugs_a_lot]

[Shakes his head.]

It's crystallized Mako... Spiritual energy. [Before she asks... Trying to explain that to Uru had been hard, he's not sure Sheena will understand either, she's different though...]
