[Good evening, explorers! After departing from Cair Paradisa, the path was south at first, but turned west fairly early on. Skirting well south of Eldritch Forest, the travelers had camped near the edge of the Amber Steppe, not quite within sight of the forest that marks the Totem Coast. The grasses are parched brown by the heat, though greener patches mark the presence of water. It's near one of these - a small, bubbling stream leading west that Raine has chosen to follow as it will almost certainly run into the river marked on her map - that the travelers have made their camp.

The carts and wagons are arranged in a defensive circle, though the campers are free to set up their tents outside them as well as inside wher ethe rest of them are. There are small cooking fires scattered around as well as a large bonfire in the center for socializing.

Play music? Sing? Teach those poor non-Earth kids how to make s'mores? Or just sit around and socialize with others.

Or hide in your tent and ignore everyone, if you really want to.]

Obvious or not it was obvious she means a lot to you if you didn't kill her in the end.

Well, it's a bit complicated to explain, but people were suffering, and if Colette didn't do what she had to, it would have continued.

[Oh, right, he was looking for something... Takes his hand out of his pocket and shows her a little green orb. It looks as if made of frosted glass in the inside; it looks dull though, as it should have an inner glow when outside the Dead Zone. Not that he'll say anything about it.]

Materia.

Materia? [She leans in closer to peer at it.]

It kind of looks like a pearl. Is it one?

[Shakes his head.]

It's crystallized Mako... Spiritual energy. [Before she asks... Trying to explain that to Uru had been hard, he's not sure Sheena will understand either, she's different though...]

[She looks up rather quickly.] Spirit energy? Like mana?

[He's not used to that word but it does the trick.]

Yeah.

[She looks at the Materia again.]

How is it made?

[Oy... That question...]

It's... complicated. You really wanna know?

[There's that word again... She smiles and shakes her head.]

Not really. It is pretty, though. [She pauses.]

But it's not just a simple piece of jewelry, is it?

No. It's what we use to perform magic.

You mean you're not born with the ability for magic on your world?

[Shakes his head side to side.]

No, but it comes easier to some than to others... Even though... [Leaves that thought in the air. Aerith is very magical herself if he thought about it, being a Cetra and everything.]

Even though what, Cloud? They don't want to use it?

I'm not sure, but I think people that were born with magic disappeared a while ago from my world.

Oh. [Hold on a second.]

What do you mean you're not sure?

Because I got a friend who apparently is the last of her race--who knows, maybe she isn't. If she wasn't maybe there is still people who are born with magic. [Shrugs.]
