After packing up camp and heading up, they reach their destination only an hour north.

The tomb is just a little off the road, a massive door with intricate carvings around the frame in an unknown script. The characters in the script are made up entirely by straight lines. Given that straight lines lend themselves well to carving, it may indicate that whoever created this script was used to carving in stone. The door looks like it will open, as the hinges are intact, but it's ridiculously heavy and will need a lot of people to pull on those big carved handles.

Same, Rookie, though that name doesn't really inspire my confidence.

I'm sure. [] Although, I tend to think it's a person's actions that should hold more weight than the name they go by.

Maybe. [ eheh. ] But I'm sure the nickname didn't pop up out of nowhere. Though, you're kind of old to be a rookie, aren't you?

There's nothing special to the name, though. I was just the newest member of the squad I belonged to, so it just kind of stuck.

Like nicknames have a habit of doing. You some kind of army guy?

Yeah. I'm a Marine, actually. Different branch, but still military.

Noooot that I can remember. And I think I'd remember. Ponies are those weird ostrich-horses with four legs, right?

No, ostrich-horses. [ he huffs a bit at that look, and shrugs. ] I've seen my share of weird animals since I got here, so I guess it's not that much of a surprise if normal things are weird to you guys.

But this place hasn't exactly stuck with the theme of normal animals for me either. So I guess it's all about one's perspective.

True. And from my perspective, ostrich-horses -- or horses or ponies or whatever -- who talk are still pretty not normal.
