(no subject)

After packing up camp and heading up, they reach their destination only an hour north.

The tomb is just a little off the road, a massive door with intricate carvings around the frame in an unknown script. The characters in the script are made up entirely by straight lines. Given that straight lines lend themselves well to carving, it may indicate that whoever created this script was used to carving in stone. The door looks like it will open, as the hinges are intact, but it's ridiculously heavy and will need a lot of people to pull on those big carved handles.

Heave ho?

Just three? [] Doesn't sound like you've been around here for very long then.

[ nope, he got it right. ]

Couple of months, though I had another stint here before, apparently. I'm a regular shy guy.

[identity profile] odst-mute.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 10:28 am (UTC)(link)
[] I'll take your word on it.

You happen to have a name?

[identity profile] rappelle.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 02:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[ he grins, and extends a hand. ]

Jet. You?

[identity profile] odst-mute.livejournal.com 2011-11-19 10:44 am (UTC)(link)
Rookie. [] It's nice to meet you, Jet.

[identity profile] rappelle.livejournal.com 2011-11-19 11:53 am (UTC)(link)
[ jokingly. ]

Same, Rookie, though that name doesn't really inspire my confidence.

[identity profile] odst-mute.livejournal.com 2011-11-19 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure. [] Although, I tend to think it's a person's actions that should hold more weight than the name they go by.

[identity profile] rappelle.livejournal.com 2011-11-19 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe. [ eheh. ] But I'm sure the nickname didn't pop up out of nowhere. Though, you're kind of old to be a rookie, aren't you?

[ to his eyes, anyway. ]

[identity profile] odst-mute.livejournal.com 2011-11-20 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
So you would think. []

There's nothing special to the name, though. I was just the newest member of the squad I belonged to, so it just kind of stuck.

[identity profile] rappelle.livejournal.com 2011-11-20 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Like nicknames have a habit of doing. You some kind of army guy?

[identity profile] odst-mute.livejournal.com 2011-11-20 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[]

Yeah. I'm a Marine, actually. Different branch, but still military.

[identity profile] rappelle.livejournal.com 2011-11-20 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[ depends on what the architect did! :|a ]

It's true that we get all kinds here.

[identity profile] odst-mute.livejournal.com 2011-11-20 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[]

Well, when residents range from talking ponies to normal humans, it's not too surprising.

[]

[identity profile] rappelle.livejournal.com 2011-11-20 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[ well, he's not quite a civilian, but he might have done that already. whoops. also, he tilts his head back, and then chuckles lightly. ]

Completely normal human over here, if you're wondering. You didn't just say talking ponies, did you?

[identity profile] odst-mute.livejournal.com 2011-11-21 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Same here. []

But yeah. I did. [] Guessing you still haven't run into any of them yet.

[identity profile] rappelle.livejournal.com 2011-11-22 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Noooot that I can remember. And I think I'd remember. Ponies are those weird ostrich-horses with four legs, right?

[identity profile] odst-mute.livejournal.com 2011-11-23 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, they're -- [] Ostrich?

You sure you're talking about horses?

[identity profile] rappelle.livejournal.com 2011-11-26 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
No, ostrich-horses. [ he huffs a bit at that look, and shrugs. ] I've seen my share of weird animals since I got here, so I guess it's not that much of a surprise if normal things are weird to you guys.

[identity profile] helljumped.livejournal.com 2011-11-26 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
I guess not. []

But this place hasn't exactly stuck with the theme of normal animals for me either. So I guess it's all about one's perspective.

[identity profile] rappelle.livejournal.com 2011-11-26 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
True. And from my perspective, ostrich-horses -- or horses or ponies or whatever -- who talk are still pretty not normal.
