After packing up camp and heading up, they reach their destination only an hour north.

The tomb is just a little off the road, a massive door with intricate carvings around the frame in an unknown script. The characters in the script are made up entirely by straight lines. Given that straight lines lend themselves well to carving, it may indicate that whoever created this script was used to carving in stone. The door looks like it will open, as the hinges are intact, but it's ridiculously heavy and will need a lot of people to pull on those big carved handles.

Heave ho?

Oh, this isn't half as complicated as it could be! Cheer up, Junior. There's a way out of this, there always is. Even if it's not apparent and has to be made.

[all of this smacks STRONGLY of old adventures, and he couldn't be more at ease with the whole situation]

Oh, come on. You know there's a lot worse to come, if we're lucky. Let's just focus on everyone getting out of here alive.

I want to discover something useful just as much as you or anyone else, but these people's safety is my top priority.

[ Something he takes very seriously, maybe a little too much. ]

Well, also, have a little faith, Junior. Most of these people signed on knowing full well what an expedition out beyond the Dead Zone entails. They're not like companions, in that regard. Thank goodness. Have you any idea how trying it is, keeping a stewardess in heels out of trouble in a jungle?

[ That just makes him squint up at the Doctor like he might be crazy, before sheepishly shrugging and glancing away. ]

How about a couple of scientists, one definitely in heels, in a forest in the fake past?

Uncannily similar, really. ... So you do get what I'm saying, I'm sure. [he smiiiiiles]

Then you know we're dealing with far more competent people here, for the most part. [he pats him on the shoulder] Buck up, won't you? I'm rather certain we can all handle ourselves, no matter what happens. We've made it for this long and through other such nonsense, haven't we?

We also have some newbies who knew absolutely nothing about the dangers of the Dead Zone before the other day. There are some civilians here who have absolutely no experience in battle or handling real danger. A couple I can tell just by the way they walk and act.

I know everyone's got one another's backs. I'm not worried about that. I'm just hoping it's enough.

[ He knows without a doubt that they've been extremely lucky up to this point, not having any casualties on any of the trips outside of Kanda. And he came back to life the moment they crossed over because of his ability. ]

[he speaks with the conviction of one Determined Not To Fail] It will be.

[because he doesn't even want to think about what it will mean for him if it isn't]
