After packing up camp and heading up, they reach their destination only an hour north.
The tomb is just a little off the road, a massive door with intricate carvings around the frame in an unknown script. The characters in the script are made up entirely by straight lines. Given that straight lines lend themselves well to carving, it may indicate that whoever created this script was used to carving in stone. The door looks like it will open, as the hinges are intact, but it's ridiculously heavy and will need a lot of people to pull on those big carved handles.
Heave ho?

[he'll do his best to keep the lantern steady, though, and follow her closely]
What's your name? I'm Ray, Ray Stantz. I don't think we've met...

[She glances back fully when he introduces himself, because it's only polite!]
We haven't. I am Alleria Windrunner.
/placeholds before bed <3
Pretty name. Nice t' meet you. ... How long've you been here?
[he's keeping his eyes open and on just about everything he can as they're walking, of course. the small talk is just to pass the time]
sleep well! <3
[Alleria's gaze is also sweeping over everything as they walk and talk. Look at these two, masters of multitasking.]
Just over a year. And you?

[masters might not even be a strong enough word. they are boss, man]
I got here in February, so ... a few months shy've one, myself.

You mean you've got gnomes on your world as well?

Ray, you have just met Alleria: when she's not all business, she's busy trying to make men uncomfortable.]

OH.
WELL SHIT]
No no no, I'm sorry! I didn't mean it THAT way, I meant --
[he gestures with his hands, indicating something about the size of a coffee mug] Smaller.
no subject
Ohh. So I see.
It sounds as though you describe fairies, however.
no subject
Kinda? I mean, in the storybooks I had when I was a kid, fairies were even smaller than elves, and usually a lot more delicate. The elves were more ... I dunno, earthy? I guess that's a good word. Hardy. Yeah, hardy works better.
[he looks her over] Especially since I think anyone who tried to call you delicate would hafta be pretty numb.

She mulls this over for a moment, frowning as she thinks.]
I do not know if there is an analogue for your elves, where I come from. Perhaps -- dwarves? They are of the earth.
[But she'll beam again at that last part, nodding.] I am a ranger. We are anything but delicate.
no subject
A ranger? Oh, wow. So, you like ... help take out poachers and stuff? [this is the definition he knows. well, that, and The Guy Who Chases Yogi Bear. but she definitely doesn't fit THAT one]
no subject
She snorts a little, amused.] That is part of it. Rangers defend the woods of Quel'Thalas -- the home of the elves -- from all threats. Poachers, animals, invaders, trolls ... any threat.

[A pause.] The trolls here, of course, are different. The ones with horns, I mean.

I have become acquainted with the one known as Nepeta, do you know her?

Which I've yet to return to her. Hm.

I haven't used it, as I do not have much trust in magic, but it is a comb that, if used on its possessor's hair, will stop time briefly.
