(no subject)

After packing up camp and heading up, they reach their destination only an hour north.

The tomb is just a little off the road, a massive door with intricate carvings around the frame in an unknown script. The characters in the script are made up entirely by straight lines. Given that straight lines lend themselves well to carving, it may indicate that whoever created this script was used to carving in stone. The door looks like it will open, as the hinges are intact, but it's ridiculously heavy and will need a lot of people to pull on those big carved handles.

Heave ho?

Oh, this place back home - part of an abandoned underground subway system. It was about seventy years old ... this place looks like it could be a lot older, though.

[he'll do his best to keep the lantern steady, though, and follow her closely]

What's your name? I'm Ray, Ray Stantz. I don't think we've met...

[identity profile] arrowonthewind.livejournal.com 2011-11-15 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
I do not know what a "subway" is, either. But I would gather this place is much older than your seventy years, yes.

[She glances back fully when he introduces himself, because it's only polite!]

We haven't. I am Alleria Windrunner.

/placeholds before bed <3

[identity profile] ectobabble.livejournal.com 2011-11-15 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
It's sort of a transportation system. The "sub" part's short for "subterranean". [he shrugs, not bothered by the fact that she keeps walking, for the most part]

Pretty name. Nice t' meet you. ... How long've you been here?

[he's keeping his eyes open and on just about everything he can as they're walking, of course. the small talk is just to pass the time]

sleep well! <3

[identity profile] arrowonthewind.livejournal.com 2011-11-15 06:33 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. The gnomes were working on something like that, I think.

[Alleria's gaze is also sweeping over everything as they walk and talk. Look at these two, masters of multitasking.]

Just over a year. And you?

[identity profile] ectobabble.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Really? That's neat. It's crazy how many things all these different worlds we're all from have in common, once you start askin' people about 'em...

[masters might not even be a strong enough word. they are boss, man]

I got here in February, so ... a few months shy've one, myself.

[identity profile] arrowonthewind.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
[She's a little amused at that -- it seemed as though all the other humans in this place came from worlds devoid of anything except humans.]

You mean you've got gnomes on your world as well?

[identity profile] ectobabble.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Huh? No, no gnomes for me. I meant more that it was kinda neat how we both had similar travel systems, even if the gnomes were still working on yours...

[identity profile] arrowonthewind.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. Yes, there seem to be many similarities between worlds, despite their differences. Tell me, what does your world say about elves?

[identity profile] ectobabble.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
Elves? Actually, I'd never met any real elves before I came here to Paradisa. The only ones I knew of were in storybooks. ... And usually a lot smaller than you.

[identity profile] arrowonthewind.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
Smaller? I think I'm quite fit for the most part, don't you? [She spins a little in place as she says this. She's just kidding, though!

Ray, you have just met Alleria: when she's not all business, she's busy trying to make men uncomfortable.]

[identity profile] ectobabble.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Fit? ... [give him a second, he's trying to figure out what being in shape has to do with being bigger than the elves in the story about the shoemake---- oh.

OH.

WELL SHIT]

No no no, I'm sorry! I didn't mean it THAT way, I meant --

[he gestures with his hands, indicating something about the size of a coffee mug] Smaller.

[identity profile] arrowonthewind.livejournal.com 2011-11-18 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[HAHA, so cute. Alleria just beams, pleased with herself.]

Ohh. So I see.

It sounds as though you describe fairies, however.

[identity profile] ectobabble.livejournal.com 2011-11-21 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
[it's not hard to fluster Ray - he's an easy target, if she needs that knowledge for future reference]

Kinda? I mean, in the storybooks I had when I was a kid, fairies were even smaller than elves, and usually a lot more delicate. The elves were more ... I dunno, earthy? I guess that's a good word. Hardy. Yeah, hardy works better.

[he looks her over] Especially since I think anyone who tried to call you delicate would hafta be pretty numb.

[identity profile] arrowonthewind.livejournal.com 2011-11-21 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
[She will definitely keep that in mind, ohohoho.

She mulls this over for a moment, frowning as she thinks.]

I do not know if there is an analogue for your elves, where I come from. Perhaps -- dwarves? They are of the earth.

[But she'll beam again at that last part, nodding.] I am a ranger. We are anything but delicate.

[identity profile] ectobabble.livejournal.com 2011-11-23 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
No, there were dwarves in the books, too ... I dunno. When we get back to the castle, I'll have to find a copy of the one I had when I was a kid, so you can see what I mean.

A ranger? Oh, wow. So, you like ... help take out poachers and stuff? [this is the definition he knows. well, that, and The Guy Who Chases Yogi Bear. but she definitely doesn't fit THAT one]

[identity profile] arrowonthewind.livejournal.com 2011-11-23 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[Nodding ... yes, books sound okay. She's always interested in hearing about other worlds, after all, particularly about their elves!

She snorts a little, amused.]
That is part of it. Rangers defend the woods of Quel'Thalas -- the home of the elves -- from all threats. Poachers, animals, invaders, trolls ... any threat.

[identity profile] ectobabble.livejournal.com 2011-11-28 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Trolls? Wow! I don't think I've ever seen one've those, either, though there was that one entry in Tobin's Spirit Guide about the 1894 infestation in Norway ...

[identity profile] arrowonthewind.livejournal.com 2011-11-28 08:56 am (UTC)(link)
Vile creatures, trolls. Primitive and cannibalistic. Cruel opportunists that offer sacrifices to their dark gods and re-animate their own dead.

[A pause.] The trolls here, of course, are different. The ones with horns, I mean.

[identity profile] ectobabble.livejournal.com 2011-11-28 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow, yeeeah. Those sound really nasty! I sure hope we don't get any of 'em here! The other trolls, though, you mean the Alternians? I've met some of them, they're pretty decent once you get past the cultural differences. [read: lack of manners]

[identity profile] arrowonthewind.livejournal.com 2011-11-30 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yes -- the grey ones. I was surprised to hear they were called trolls, as they are not very similar to the ones on Azeroth. [They don't even have tusks!]

I have become acquainted with the one known as Nepeta, do you know her?

[identity profile] ectobabble.livejournal.com 2011-11-30 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think so, no... [but he will know her by the end of the expedition!]

[identity profile] arrowonthewind.livejournal.com 2011-12-01 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
She is ... excitable. But she has a good heart, I think. She lent me a magic trinket -- [A pause. Oh ...]

Which I've yet to return to her. Hm.

[identity profile] ectobabble.livejournal.com 2011-12-01 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
A magic trinket? ... Wow, neat. What does it do? Can I see it?

[identity profile] arrowonthewind.livejournal.com 2011-12-02 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
[She shakes her head a bit.] I did not bring it with me. I will return it to its owner once we return to the castle; perhaps she will show you.

I haven't used it, as I do not have much trust in magic, but it is a comb that, if used on its possessor's hair, will stop time briefly.
