Winchester/Fairfield Expedition - Depature

[After working for roughly a day and a half, nearly nonstop for some of you, the town's looking both healthier and hardier. With most (if not all) of the expeditioners contributing to reparation and building, you've managed to get a lot of work done: all the buildings have at least been patched up to some extent, and the poor broken fence is now standing and sturdy. You've even managed to get together a couple outposts. Nothing fancy-- they're just elevated platforms, really-- but they serve their purpose of allowing people to see far out quite well.

It's probably best to start heading back now, though, since you need the supplies you brought to last you the trip home.]

Aye, any information you have would be most helpful.

I've only just arrived to the castle, so I'm not exactly familiar with the foes you've faced, or what else could potentially attack these people again.

The more I know, the better advice and strategy I can give to help them.

I'll put together everything I have and bring it to you. The better defense we can think up, the better off we'll all be.

--After all, any attack they stop here won't reach the castle.

Agreed, this is a basic of battle.

Besides, the more support we provide to them,the more likely they'll be to return the favor in the future. We cannot afford to make an enemy of them.

[He's having flashbacks of being abandoned by the Elves - therefore he's determined not to let these people feel the same betrayal he did all those years ago.]

You know, it would be nice to have people out here who don't hate us on principle. So I gotta agree.

[Poor new Thorin...he doesn't know about First Gens but it feels like he'll understand the friction all too well]

[Thorin takes the journal and flips through the information. He's momentarily overcome by the sheer volume of information. He gives a low whistle as he reads it over.]

You've encountered some impressive feats of battle, I see. This will indeed be incredibly useful - thank you.

[Thorin is overwhelmed with a new found respect for his fellow residents - he did not realize the hardships they'd overcome.]

[He smiles and ducks his head a little bashfully. Well, maybe they had had some good battles, but he hadn't been there for all of them.]

It's something everyone should be aware of, I think. There's still a lot we don't know about this place, but we've been making an effort to compile what we do know so everyone can be on an equal footing. So yeah, you're welcome - and anything you can add to it some day would be really great.

And I am indeed impressed and touched that you look out for your fellow residents in this regard.

[It reminds him of his Company, and makes him feel a bit more at home.]

Well. [He looks a tad bit embarrassed at the praise - he's not a natural leader or anything, but when something needs to be done, he's not going to stand by and let the opportunity pass..]

I mean, we're all in this together, right? And I've at least been to this town before, so I know a little about what it's like.

[And Thorin intends to contribute everything he can to this group. He will prove his worth and skill in any way he can.]

Of course I'm willing! ...can't explain it really, but it feels like my duty to do so...

[It actually unnerves him that he can't place why he feels that way.]

Well, they're lost and homeless. I can't really say it's my duty to help them, but damned if it isn't at least basic human decency.

[Is it okay to talk about human decency to a dwarf? Sure, why not?]

Aye, perhaps that's a better way to put it - it seems like the decent thing to do.

[Maybe that was just the king in him coming out - that feeling that protecting people was something that needed to be done.]

[That's definitely a better way to think about it than as a permanent loss.]

Yeah. Well, I'll let you know once I have a plan together, yeah? And in the meantime, see what else you can find that needs to be done. I'll do my best to see that the right person gets the job.
