Winchester/Fairfield Expedition - Day Two Open Mingle Post

[by now, everyone has had a chance to look around Fairfield and get their bearings, right? those who came along and remember it from a few years ago probably found a lot changed and in need of repairs.

as for the distress call, Dr. Brewer and his friend Heath have been pretty friendly and outgoing, but the other refugees from Draconis have stayed in hiding. maybe you're helping with the repairs, maybe you're trying to find those other refugees and see if they need help ... or maybe you're just wandering around and doing your own thing.

either way, there seems to be no sign of those creepy, crawly Collector bugs from Terre Haute, today, so you're free to do as you please! post in one of the sections provided, or make your own - it's all good!]

[Phoebe paces as she keeps an eye on the horizon. It's clear to see that she's got something on her mind other than the threat of the Collectors, though. She seems lost in thought as she passes an athame back and forth between her hands. She's not normally one for weaponry but she needs SOMETHING to do with her hands. She's never been great at the whole handyman thing so she can't even do that to occupy herself.

Sighing, she stops in her tracks, turning to look out over the town. There had to be something more they could be doing. Frustrated, she turns and throws the athame at a nearby fence post. It makes a solid THUNK as it embeds itself in the target.]

[fanstheflame]

[Gale hears the thunk from a few yards down, where he's working, and looks over. he doesn't know Phoebe from Eve by sight, so he's looking a little perturbed as he calls out]

You know, I just fixed that...!

[kungfuwitch]

Sorry. Consider it target practice.

[She shrugs and moves to retrieve the weapon when she realizes where she heard that voice]

Gale?

[fanstheflame]

... Yeeeeah, that's me ... [he frowns, confused. he hasn't heard enough of her voice to be able to place it, yet] I'm sorry, have we met?

[kungfuwitch]

[She manages a smile, slipping the athame into its sheath and stepping closer]

Not formally. I'm Phoebe Halliwell. The advice columnist?

[fanstheflame]

Oh! ... That was you. [he smiles sheepishly] Thanks again, it ... it helped. A lot.

[kungfuwitch]

[She waves a hand]

You're welcome. It's no trouble at all, really. I used to do that for a living back home. It's nice to be able to help people like that here.

[fanstheflame]

[he nods to himself a little, thinking] Is that why you came along, then? To help Dr. Brewer and the other people here?

[kungfuwitch]

[Her expression darkens a little as she turns to look back at the town]

Part of it, yes. I got a premonition after the broadcast. I saw these people, wounded and looking towards the sky with fear in their eyes. I got it for a reason - I'm meant to help them, I'm sure of it. [She pauses, sighing] I just wish we had left earlier and bought ourselves more time.

A premonition? [he's never heard the word before, and isn't quite sure what it means until she gives him the context. even then, it's a little startling. he knows people here have magic, but this is a new sort for him]

Just because you saw it, though, that doesn't mean it's going to happen, right?

[kungfuwitch]

Unless we can prevent it it will. Generally I get a premonition because I'm supposed to do something about it, to change it or stop it somehow. [She smiles grimly] It's both a blessing and a curse I guess you could say.

[fanstheflame]

So you think ... you think that something really is going to come down on them from the sky?

[kungfuwitch]

[She sighs, running a hand through her hair]

It's possible that it's a vision of something that already happened but... yes. Yes I think that something will happen. Whether or not we'll still be here to help them is the question.

[fanstheflame]

Well, Ino told me he said the attacks happen every few days, so we've got time to help them make their defenses better. [he frowns, thoughtfully] Hopefully that'll help... but I'd feel better about it if we'd been able to get here faster.

[kungfuwitch]

[She frowns, herself, sighing disdainfully]

We should have left the day after that message.

[fanstheflame]

I agree. I ... I'm glad that they were still even here. My home was attacked, so - I know how fast things can really go wrong.

[kungfuwitch]

[Her anger immediately turns to compassion]

Your home was... I'm sorry, Gale. No one should have to live through that. We get attacked by demons all the time but it's our destiny so we don't really have much room to complain.

[fanstheflame]

... Getting attacked by demons is your destiny? [he looks more confused than alarmed. seriously, what does that even mean? is she being philosophical?]

[kungfuwitch]

My sisters and I fight evil in any form. We protect the innocent. [She shrugs] That includes a lot of demons.

[Dairine is taking a break from the repairs, using her time to patrol the edge of town instead. She walks along the plains' border with her bow and quiver on her back, watching for any surprise movements. Every so often her hand grips the bow harder when the cougars appear too suddenly, but nothing gets close enough to get her to fire.

She spots Phoebe just before the knife hits the fence.]

Nice aim.

[kungfuwitch]

[She looks up at the voice, smiling slightly at Dairine]

Thanks. I'm sorry... I just had to let off some steam.

I don't blame you. Between the Dead Zone's effects and waiting for the Collectors to show up, I'm surprised more people aren't throwing sharp pointy objects already.

[Dairine makes her way over.]

I don't usually see you out on these kinds of missions. How's the trip treated you?

[kungfuwitch]

[She nods in agreement, looking out over the grass shifting as one of those cougars moves through it]

Well enough so far. I had that premonition and knew I had to follow up on it. I couldn't just sit back and let everyone else go out and not try to help.
