[Good evening, explorers! After departing from Cair Paradisa, the path was south at first, but turned west fairly early on. Skirting well south of Eldritch Forest, the travelers had camped near the edge of the Amber Steppe, not quite within sight of the forest that marks the Totem Coast. The grasses are parched brown by the heat, though greener patches mark the presence of water. It's near one of these - a small, bubbling stream leading west that Raine has chosen to follow as it will almost certainly run into the river marked on her map - that the travelers have made their camp.

The carts and wagons are arranged in a defensive circle, though the campers are free to set up their tents outside them as well as inside wher ethe rest of them are. There are small cooking fires scattered around as well as a large bonfire in the center for socializing.

Play music? Sing? Teach those poor non-Earth kids how to make s'mores? Or just sit around and socialize with others.

Or hide in your tent and ignore everyone, if you really want to.]

What are pancakes?

[OH YOU POOR CHILD D:] Well, I've got to fix that right away!

It's a fried batter...thing. Look, I'll make one it's the easiest way to explain them.

[persequor]

[ …mayhaps he's a bit touched in the head. ]

Can I watch?

[That would be an accurate assessment. He nods]

Sure, come on in and I'll show you how to cook 'em like a pro.

[Heading inside the tent-cottage of awesomeness]

[ Some day, she will listen to people talk and understand every word they say. She follows him inside, peering at the interior in curiosity. ]

[It's a pretty regular tent, really, except for the kitchen, which has a little cooking stove nestled safely in it.

The Once-ler hums a little tune to himself as he gathers up a bowl and some ingredients, before putting them on a little fold out table]

Okay, Kiddo. Now you get to learn the delicate art of pancake making.

Is it like making a pie?

[whichwayyoulean]

Not exactly, but you have the same basic ingredients, you just mix and cook them differently.

[And he goes through it step by step doop doop too lazy to type it all out]

And then we put it into the flying pan.

[persequor]

For how long?

[whichwayyoulean]

Not long at all. You just put the batter in like this, and shift it so it covers the whole pan. [As he's doing this he's humming his little pancake song don't judge him]

And then you use the spatula to make sure it's not stuck to the bottom and - [He picks up the pan and flips the pancake in the air] - flippitybo! You have one delicious pancake.

[He'll be putting that on a plate and dousing it with syrup, before handing the plate to her] There you go.

[ Judging. So hard. ]

[No you can't judge until you've tasted them :/ He hands her a fork]

Dig in, if you like 'em I can make some more.

[ She takes an experimental bite. It tastes like a cake. A little too sweet for her preferences, but scraping off the syrup helps. ]

Not a fan of syrup, huh? Well, I guess you can put fruit or cream on there if you prefer.

[persequor]

Is there cream?

[whichwayyoulean]

Sure, lemmie grab you some. [He'll go rooting around in his cool box and wooo, cream. And after he's made another atch of pancakes, Arya can have it piles on top. Deliciousness]

[He seems almost surprised she can even say such a thing]

Did someone teach you how to make these?

Nope, I learned all by myself.

What else do you know to make?

Pretty much anything. I make a mean green eggs and ham.
