[Good evening, explorers! After departing from Cair Paradisa, the path was south at first, but turned west fairly early on. Skirting well south of Eldritch Forest, the travelers had camped near the edge of the Amber Steppe, not quite within sight of the forest that marks the Totem Coast. The grasses are parched brown by the heat, though greener patches mark the presence of water. It's near one of these - a small, bubbling stream leading west that Raine has chosen to follow as it will almost certainly run into the river marked on her map - that the travelers have made their camp.

The carts and wagons are arranged in a defensive circle, though the campers are free to set up their tents outside them as well as inside wher ethe rest of them are. There are small cooking fires scattered around as well as a large bonfire in the center for socializing.

Play music? Sing? Teach those poor non-Earth kids how to make s'mores? Or just sit around and socialize with others.

Or hide in your tent and ignore everyone, if you really want to.]

[She chuckles.] Whatever floats your boat, Mr. Once-ler.

Understood. I'll get on that.

[Still pulling as hard as she can, feeling a slight give.] I know.

He was... [ She drifts into silence. Her mind scrambling to find what little the castle left her with. ] Strong. My lord husband was strong, he led a khalasar of forty thousand strong and he had never been defeated. His hair had never been cut and was adorned with the bells of his victories.

[ She stares at the water, swinging her feet back and forth, watching the ripples the movements creates. ]

He was not a man who showed many emotions, he was a great khal and as khal he had to be as stone. But he was kind to me, he was sweet and tender. [ She wishes she could describe his face, she wishes she could remember his name. ]

He grew to love me and I grew to love him deeply, with all of my heart. [ The smile that creeps onto her lips is small and sad. ] I still do.

Why would you want to burn them that much? [She giggles and holds her marshmallow a little above the flames]

Beats me. [he shrugs cheerfully, pulling his off the fire before they can burn] Some people are just weird.

I'm sure some people do, but ... people in Japan are used to not having a lot of space, because it's a really small country with a pretty big population. Whole families will live in places the size of our rooms back at the castle.

[She nods] I felt like that once, too. I ran away and stayed in the woods for a week.

Oh, okay, good! [he laughs, relieved, and starts to tend to his smores again] ... I'd feel really awful if I did actually jinx us all.

[the shifty look he gets and the odd tone in his voice suggest that maybe it wouldn't be the first time he'd done something like that by accident]

[She shrugs] I don't know her name... she has green hair, long ears and she had a snake.

Hmmm, doesn't sound like anyone I know. [Martel has green hair, but he would've noticed a snake by now if she had one]

[She chuckles, smirking up at her]

I am pretty sneaky. I got away with a lot, though. But I was always really careful.

[She nods] Okay. I will, too. I'll be careful.

Sort of. I'm not sure what to think of the Dead Zone.

[She sits and draws her knees up.]

None of them. [ She takes a moment to look over at the other obvious newbies. ] But I figured it was about time I started lending a hand on these trips.

I've never met her before, either. [She doesn't sound happy about it. SHE WAS MEAN, WHAT?!]

[she giggles] a lot of people are. Especially here. But that's okay!

[She's watching her own marshmallow very carefully, not wanting it to get TOO toasty.

[He notices] Weren't a fan?

[Yeah, HB catches that look ...]

... you aren't bad luck or anything, are you?

No... I took Aradia's knife as a joke when she wasn't looking. When I got back in the tree the elf took it and said that I had a lot to learn. When I said she couldn't keep it she asked if I wanted to fight her...

Almost there--

[Kat tries to increase her effort, and finally the horse does his own bit of leaning away that gives Kat better leverage and finally offers the space she needs to free her leg. Feeling the sudden gap, the horse steps forward with a grunt, and Kat's immediately dismounting.]

I miss the jeep.

...aaa. It's weird, not having your powers.

I haven't had them that long myself, but... [Well, it's still a little unnerving, knowing you could come across danger and be unable to defend yourself.]

Well, being safe is even more important than being sneaky.

[She glances down Rue.]

What, just like -- by yourself?

[Kind of in a faraway voice] Some people in my world believe there are whole towns on a speck of dust.

...

Anyway. I guess if you're used to there not being a lot of space, it's not awkward for you to sleep in what's basically a penthouse coffin.
