It sounds correct. [but the news is not good]

[identity profile] payback.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
... Paradisa used to speak to its residents too.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_fredless/ 2011-11-17 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Fred's been uncharacteristically quiet for some time now. She didn't need the translated version to understand the message, the meaning had been clear enough through even the first reading.

What she can't take her eyes off of are the skeletons. With a scientist's eye she looks over their forms, notes what is human and most definitely is not. There's a range among them that is morbidly captivating. Even now she's walking over two two of them. They're not alike, structurally. But affection sits between them like a shared ghost. Fred shivers....

And then looks up. To their own group. Her gaze seems to slip even further, to the rest of the people in the expedition they can't see. Then to the castle itself]

...this could be us.

[identity profile] jamesholmes.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
[Now James may be lacking his enhanced intelligence but he's been keeping an eye on everyone. So seeing Fred that way? While he doesn't know her at all he knows things.

But before approaching her he flashes River a smile.
]

Thank you for that.

[Before that smile slips and he nods.]

Yes it could be us. This is a reminder of that. [Then softer as he gets closer to her.] Are you alright miss?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_fredless/ 2011-11-17 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Is it a reminder? Or a message of some kind. They knew enough to leave that letter and...

[Even though she answered the question, and is present to recognize the asking of it? Fred is still clearly lost in her own thoughts. One hand hovers just over one of the skulls, almost touching? But not quite]

We always assumed we went back. Back right to the moment we were taken from. [And while Fred's never understood exactly why everyone was so certain of that, it's long been accepted as true] But they --

They didn't go back. They're still...[Again, her gaze flickers at the couples and groups that surround them] They're still here. So what then? What happened to their friends and their families and their timeslines? To their lives? Are they just missing, now?

[That skull, still not touching it]

Did I walk by her face, posted at a grocery store somewhere? On a lamppost? And not even wonder what that meant?

[identity profile] jamesholmes.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
[And James has seen enough people lost in thought, almost too lost in thought, to know that it's a dangerous place to go. Especially with her almost touching that skull. He does however approach her more, watching her eyes on the skeletons. He'll put more thought into this later, right now? There's a more immediate concern, more immediate problem.]

You did nothing, you could know nothing of what happened to them. For all we know this place could, cause more realities in our own worlds where we would never miss someone if they died here.

But you are better off, [And here he reaches for her hand near that skull, attempting to take it in his.] not dwelling on it. Not now. Focus on the present, not the past.

[identity profile] luthored.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
[ Lana was looking at James, rather impressed by his quick translation, but her interest in the message shifts when she notices Fred's sudden distress. Recalling what she does of Fred's past, Lana moves to rest her hand on her arm in a comforting fashion, her voice quiet. ]

I'm sure there's an explanation to this. We'll figure it out. Right now just remember that at least for the time being, this isn't us. We're not weak. We're just a little lost.

I really... want to get to understand that place.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_fredless/ 2011-11-17 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Fred nods, feeling just the same. She's still a bit shaken]

Tell be about it.

[identity profile] jamesholmes.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Stands to reason that something the residents did, disturbed that.

[identity profile] courageous-wit.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
It sounds like Paradisa. These people even personifies it like we do with Cair Paradisa.

[identity profile] hullo-sweetie.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
I thought no one knew for sure if the Castle was actually sentient. I wander what caused it to go silent.

And if this will become our fate.

[identity profile] jamesholmes.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
I would trust that the Castle is sentient far more then I would it being not. And it could have gone silent in many ways, many reasons, we may find more here to answer that.

Though if the Castle ever, fell I would think this would be our fate.

[identity profile] payback.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
Not necessarily. For one I hate to think of accepting being fodder, victim, or dupe to that place. For another, we have a place to go - the outposts. But this makes me think we should get working harder to set up independent sources of food...

Look at these people, anyway. They all look like they were... ready. For something. Who knows what happened here? How did these people really die? What led to that happening? We've torn down Paradisa once before and we didn't all die for it. What's different between our situations? There must be something.

[identity profile] payback.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
I've never doubted the castle was sentient, personally. It tailors its games far too well to not be sentient. And it works with us residents far too elegantly to not be sentient.

[identity profile] payback.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
We found this out during events I'm not sure you were here for. Children were being kidnapped, and we found a lot of journal scraps from older residents who'd fought the same creature we did - residents whose entries aren't in the journals we have, as a matter of fact. They referred to people consulting the castle, but I don't believe they got a clear reply, and no one in the current population that I know of has successfully got a reply from the castle at all.

[identity profile] courageous-wit.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
I wasn't here, but I did read about that. These similarities between this place and Paradisa are really starting to worry me.

[identity profile] payback.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
I don't believe Paradisa is all evil but everything we find here ought to be remembered and... passed on.

[identity profile] courageous-wit.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
[oh don't worry, Hermione's already got it memorized] Absolutely.

I think I remember someone else told me that once too.

[identity profile] payback.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
... You weren't here for the original announcement of that.

[Rin moves to put an arm around John's shoulders.]

We should take this paper with us. And I still have my journal, so maybe sketch some of this, if I can or if anyone's better up to it than me. This information has to be shared.

[identity profile] dupable.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
There was an announcement? Someone just told me over the journals once.

[ A pause... ]

Should we write down what it says in the journals too, so everyone can see?

[identity profile] payback.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Leaving that first question.]

Why not? We can write down John's translation too, and let other people check it and look at it and talk about it. Information like this should be shared.
